Why use Figma for your presentations
A couple of weeks ago, I have written a short piece on why creating presentations in Figma was a huge game-changer for me. The article was written for the launch of templatery.co, a small side-project with a gallery of free Figma presentation templates. Over the last couple of weeks, templatery.co templates have been cloned in thousands. This is a compilation of points I have seen people make when they switched from their regular presentation tool (PowerPoint, Google Slides) to Figma.
1. No more exporting and uploading assets
This is especially true when working with designs. Usually, the presentations contain a lot of screen states, mock-ups and wireframes. Every single one of these needs to be manually exported and re-uploaded, which might become tedious very quickly.
On the other hand, with Figma presentations, you simply press cmd + D (or press the option key and drag). And that’s it. Your assets are now in the slides.
2. Your latest designs are synced with your presentation
This is very closely related to the first point, but usually, you would need to redo the presentation when a client asks for some changes. In Figma, you could go as far as creating components that get auto-updated, so you don’t need to worry about designs going out of date.
3. Shortcuts you are familiar with
Personally, this was the biggest game-changer for me. Software for creating presentations does have a lot of pre-defined shortcuts which are powerful, but I oftentimes found myself having to re-learn them because I spend most of my days in Figma.
I dedicated some time to learn the most useful shortcuts in Figma, so why not leverage this? The ability to quickly adjust the font size, change colors, and apply text decorations was a huge bonus in my personal productivity.
4. Collaboration and Sharing
Lastly, since Figma is big on collaboration, you can easily invite colleagues or clients to jump into the presentation and take a look, or leave comments. Also, getting a public link to a live version of your deck takes a few clicks which I also found useful countless times.
